To answer comments I have seen on the www many many times that Tweed were ‘clones or copies of
Neve’,sometimes disparagingly, I would say I closely liken Neve Electronics to Karl Benz and TweedAudio to Gottlieb Daimler who came along 4 years after Benz and added a further advance in
technology to produce his ‘Copy’ ......hey not a bad copy it was too !!
Tweed Audio went on to become a ‘Leading Name’ in the British Broadcast Industry. Thanks to almost every Chief Engineer and
ILR station in the UK.
Tweed’s Custom Desks are still very highly regarded to this day.

1974
Above and Below is the 'First Ever Tweed Audio Desk' (made for Neil Ross’s REL Ltd in 1974)
and it was still in use in Copenhagen,Denmark in the Slotsherrensvej Studios of Thomas Troelsen. Delta Labs in 2008.

(Expansion to new Factory at Rosewood Industrial Estate)
and also a Colour change to - Pigeon Blue RAL5014 /Peacock Blue

Kirsh negotiated a move to what was described as a Council
‘pilot’ Industrial Unit at Kelso's Rosewood Industrial Estate.

New Employees were taken on and a colour change was made to mark this significant step forward in the TWEED AUDIO STORY :
TWEED's Second Desk got under way, destined for another Edinburgh Company Craighall Recording Studio.
We fitted this desk and some desk furniture and 19" racking into a large Mercedes Outside Broadcast Van.

The History
Tweed Audio's expansion happened to coincide with the upsurge of Independent Local Radio and Dave Wood, Chief Engineer at Metro Radio then BRMB RADIO gave us our first foot into that market.......and so The Story unfolds.
1976

This, the first exhibition of many, including APRS London (lost count of our many visits to the Connaught Rooms) as well as AES and NAB....hard work but fun.
APRS 1978 : Held in London's Connaught Rooms saw the first glimpse of the forthcoming 'New Tweed Colour' … HEMP - used on a BC82 small suitcase mixer which used rechargeable batteries .
also displayed, Telemations 12/2 and one of BRMB’s ‘On-Air’ desks

These next few years saw Tweed Blue Desks installed in some of the leading Broadcast and ILR Stations in the country (not forgetting our very own Border Television).*see first exhibition picture above.

1979 - 1980 Final Colour Change (new image marking entry into USA)
The Home market grew steadily, as ILR Stations continued to expand and this kept our 'little Company' ticking over nicely at home, while Kirsh's attentions turned to The United States.
U.S.A.
A house was purchased as a base for the business, and a small Factory unit was leased in Newbury Park Ca.- moving to Santa Monica and finally to a small office/ factory unit in Simi Valley.
